Time to introduce something new.

Negotiation Skills for Guys & Negotiation Skills for Ladies

Please welcome the first courses on Negotiation Skills that teach a different skill-set for guys and a different one for ladies.

Negotiating is a hard skill to master. The reason being that there are many other skills you need to master first. I have broken down the skill needed for men to negotiate better and those needed for women to negotiate better. The outcome is two fantastic courses.

And, yes, you can attend both!

It’s not about who negotiates better. It is about the new behaviours and roles men and women have developed over the years. Society has evolved, beliefs have changed, expectations are higher, reactions are harsher.

By learning the differences between how men and women negotiate and use their influence around the table, you can build much easier the tool kit you need to ensure a positive outcome.

You need to know what YOUR voice is, what YOUR strengths are, how determined and resilient YOU are - and use these as part of your negotiations “voice”.

Two different courses

What I decided to do after training mixed groups in negotiation skills was to create TWO courses that would address the needs of both, women and men, in a way that each course may complement each other.

This means you can attend BOTH courses and learn what it takes to become a great negotiator.

Attending both also gives you a competitive advantage as you will have worked on two distinct skill sets.

Backed by science

Course creation is an art form. Designing the content and crafting the learning activities in a way that the result is a course that works for the learner. For me, it is important to show the science behind the theory and the reason why these tasks were developed.

This does not mean I have included the hard science in the course material as theory.

But you will FEEL and SEE the benefits once you put time and effort in the very practical course material.

So why is it so hard to negotiate?

It all has to do with your ability to think on your two feet and come up with the right arguments - and be prepared for a comeback.

Do you see how many skills are presented in just that one line?

  • First of all, there is no win-win in negotiations. You will always lose something to win something else. It is more like a lose-lose situation. Why do men say “You need to get to a win-win state”? Because it has to do with ego - and ego is a bad advisor in negotiations.

  • Thinking fast and with confidence is a gift that not many possess just like that.

  • Thinking about the right arguments requires a lot of knowledge and background reading.

  • Your audience can NEVER be known to the extent that you can feel safe that you can communicate in their “language”.

  • Emotional control is key. You can easily be thrown off the second you put your guard down.

  • Making a good comeback means thinking at least three steps ahead and assessing the others’ reactions.

  • Losing in negotiations means losing face. This is a hard pill to swallow. Resilience is key.

  • Consequences. Where do I start? Everything you say and do around the table will have consequences. Can you handle them?

  • They say “It is not personal”. I am sorry to say that the majority of the time very few can leave their ego at the door and not make it personal during a heated discussion.

We know negotiations

In 2019, I created and delivered a most successful training in negotiation skills for the United Nations System Staff College in Torino, Italy. The course was unique in its inception and was received with great success by the course participants.

At the United Nations System Staff College

The UNSSC used this material and transformed it into an e-learning module for a Management course at the College.
This, in turn, inspired me to create two distinct courses on how men and women can learn to negotiate better.
